Things to do near mountain top





Hiking/scenic



- Visit Hawks Nest Lookout (pictured above) a beautiful scenic view of the Delaware River.


- Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area has over 150 miles of trails, many featuring beautiful waterfalls. (more details on those listed below)


- High Point State Park, the highest point of elevation in NJ.Tthe park offers activities like golfing, swimming, hiking and fishing. (observation area pictured above)


​ - Stokes State Forest, an optional hike or you can drive to the pavilion at the top of the mountain.


- Lake Minnewaska State Park (pictured above, in late October) is a little bit farther out, but a beautiful drive and beautiful destination! There is a $10 entrance fee per vehicle. The park features waterfalls, lakes and streams. You can drive up to Lake Minnewaska from the park entrance, or hike up to it.



Waterfalls



- Raymondskill Falls, (pictured above) is a three tiered waterfall which is the tallest in Pennsylvania. If you add the three cascades together, the waterfall is only a few feet shorter than Niagara Falls!


- Dingmans Creek Trail is boardwalk trail (pictured above) taking you to two popular waterfalls: Silverthread Falls and Dingmans Falls. It is wheelchair and stroller accessible for most of the trail, and the last 0.1 mile requires you to climb stairs to the viewing area of the top of the falls.

Animals



- Tamerlaine Animal Sanctuary offers public tours on the weekends for a fee.


- Pocono Snake and Animal Farm is open in the late spring - October. You'll get to see a wide variety of animals up close and even have the option to purchase treats for them at the counter.


- Take your furry friends for a run over at Matamoras Dog Park, located in Airport Park.



Head to new york city



Mountain Top is minutes away from a train to the city. The NJ Transit train in Port Jervis will take you to Secaucus Junction. From there you will get on a train to Penn Station, NY. Then you're just a few blocks away from Times Square. The whole trip is roughly two hours long each direction and about $30 round trip for an adult. This way you avoid the stress of driving down into the city or paying an arm and a leg for parking!


The train will take you to Hoboken station. From there you can take a ferry to the city - either Downtown or Midtown.


HERE you can find subway schedules for once you are in the city.


Additionally, some guests have had a great time sightseeing on a double decker bus! They recommend you bring a hat and sunscreen if you're going to sit on the upper deck, and they noted there were no restrooms on the bus.



fishing



- There are plenty of fishing opportunities available in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. The link will bring you to some important information regarding safety and licensing.


- Steeny Kill Lake is a short distance away, approximately 35 acres in size and contains a wide variety of fish.


- Sawmill Pond is a smaller more secluded reservoir.

shopping



- Mountain Top is located only a mile away from Matamoras, PA (take I84 to exit 53) where you'll find all the basics like Walmart, Shoprite, Lowes, Tractor Supply, TJ Maxx and many restaurants.


- Do some shopping, antiquing, thrifting or sightseeing in historic Downtown Milford.


- There are multiple shopping centers in Middletown, about 25 minutes from here.


- Woodbury Commons outlet mall is a 40 minute drive on the highway, and has over 240 different stores.


Beacon NY, less than an hour away is great for a day trip. You'll find a lot of great food options, an art museum, downtown shopping, vinyl and bookstores. There are hiking options as well as train and bus rides that will take you around the historic city



Relaxation



- Badea & Soul Day Spa, located at the Hotel Fauchere in Downtown Milford offers a variety of spa services including massages, facials, slimming wraps, body scrubs and more. Their website is currently under construction, but they have services and pricing available on their Facebook page.


- Relax by the waterfall at TLC Salon and Spa. They offer services for hair, skin, nails and more. A full menu of services can be found on their website.



port jervis



- Check out Riverside Park, the second largest in Port Jervis and located right along the Delaware River. In addition to walking trails along the river, you can find basketball courts, a skateboard park, baseball fields, disc golf course and a recently added pump track.


- Elks Brox Memorial Park is the citys largest park on the Twin Mountain Tract, the southernmost part of the Catskills. It is home to the four mile Skyline Drive and has many miles of trails for hiking and biking.


- West End Beach is another park along the Delaware River that has a bathing beach and boat launch, as well as basketball and volleyball courts. The park doubles as Port Jervis' sledding hill in the winter season!


​ - The Outdoor Club of Port Jervis developed and maintains the Port Jervis Watershed Park and Recreation Area. There are nearly 50 miles of hiking and biking trails.



Delaware river



- Rent a canoe or kayak or go tubing down the gorgeous Delaware River. There are an abundance of rental places in the area!



Adventure



- Camelback resort in the PA Poconos offers activities all year round from skiing and snowboarding in the winter, to ziplining and off road vehicle tours in the warmer months!


- Skylands Ice World offers daily public skating.


- Visit Ochs Orchard for a variety of pick-your-own fruits and vegetables (seasonal) as well as their Farm Market that is open all year where you can get a scoop of their homemade ice cream! You will find their pick-your-own schedule on their website.





Breweries/Distilleries



- Tour the Angry Orchard hard cider facilities.


- Listen to some live music and enjoy craft beers at Log Tavern Brewing in Milford, PA.


- Warwick Valley Winery & Distillery is open Wednesday through Sunday and offers live music on the weekends. If you do the tasting, we recommend The Trio - you'll get to sample 16 of their products and come home with 3 souviner glasses.



golfing



- Golf at the secluded, 125 acre Lynx at River Bend Golf Club. Rates can be found on their website under "The Course". You will have to call them to schedule a tee time.


- High Point State Park also offers golfing. You can find rates and a virtual course tour on their website, as well as an online schedule to book a tee time.
